LAAWW members value accessibility. We strive to center our work around the lived experience and expertise of people with language and disability access barriers. However, LAAWW is an informal, all-volunteer workgroup with no budget. At this time, we are not able to pay for professional translation and interpretation services for our meetings. This is frustrating for all involved – especially our members who need this service to fully participate. Their expertise and feedback are essential to our group. We are working to find creative ways to fund this vital service.
If your agency would like to sponsor translators or interpreters for a future meeting, please let us know. We would gladly accept offers for translation and interpretation volunteers, but we also acknowledge the injustices perpetuated by not compensating for this work.
