Q. What inspired you to run for office? If you running for reelection why do you want to stay in office?

A. I am a lifelong Rice County resident, a 5th generation farmer, and I am committed to a bright future for Rice County. Rice County has been a great place to raise a family, and I am fortunate that our children also have the opportunity to live and work in Rice County. Serving as Rice County Commissioner will allow me to help shape the future for upcoming generations. I am committed to promoting business and economic growth while maintaining a small town feel, a healthy sustainable environment, and supporting our residents with quality services that help lead to their success, while balancing the need for fiscal responsibility.

Q. What qualifies you to an elected official?

A. I feel I would bring a wide variety of life experience and personal strengths to this position. I understand the value of hard work, dedication, and the importance of ag and economic development for Rice County. I am an active listener, an experienced ag business owner with sound financial managment skills, and have a common sense approach to get things done. I am a good listener and and have a lifelong history of active community involvement and volunteerism. I like working with people to find creative solutions, care about the future of Rice County, and I am committed to leading in an effective, collaborative way.

Q. What is something that you would like to accomplish while in office?

A. I am committed to working towards continued economic and ag development, strategically attracting businesses which offer livable wages and good benefits. Countywide broadband access, increased housing opportunities, and comprehensive transportation systems are important issues in Rice County, as is balancing fiscal responsibility with quality services to support our residents. I believe increased efforts to build more collaborative working relationships between the county, cities and townships could lead to more creative solutions, less duplication, and increased efficiency.

Q. State and Local government often go unnoticed how would help the public learn about what's going on?

A. Ongoing communication is key. I believe being readily available and listening to constituents is an important way to help the public learn more about what's going on in government. It is important that government is transparent -- sharing information through a variety of ways such as print, radio, and social media, in order to reach all populations and encouraging opportunities for discussion and input. Citizen advisory boards with active membership representing a wide range of residents can be used as one way to more actively engage residents, as well as building ongoing relationships with community members and local community groups and organizations.
