This running animation was one of the scenes I had to do for my final school project last year. We were tasked to make a 5-minute animated short story, so my teammates and I agreed to make a music video for Zild’s Medisina after some deliberations.
The script would take little to no writing, as the song lyrics already had a narrative. We also didn’t have to think of a central theme because we decided to follow the vibe of the record cover that evoked a nightlife, Wong Kar Wai-esque aesthetic. It was a lifesaver for our impending deadline that was two weeks away from when the activity was announced (or so we thought).
We ended up rushing our final output due to the enormous number of scenes, and from that, this piece was born. I had to create a background for the character to run through, make the run cycle itself, polish the lineart, and color the entire thing frame-by-frame within two days. It cost me hours of sleep, but I gained invaluable knowledge about animation throughout the project.
