Low-Dimensional Auxetic Materials for Helmet Applications

Conventional helmet padding absorbs impact but doesn’t distribute forces well. I designed auxetic TPU inserts using Fusion 360 and nTopology, simulated impact absorption in Abaqus, and validated with drop‑weight impact testing

• Designed peanut‑shaped auxetic structures in Fusion 360 and nTopology, sliced with Cura for FDM printing

• Simulated impact absorption in Abaqus and validated with drop‑weight impact rig

• Achieved ~45% reduction in transmitted force vs EPS foam, delivering a functional prototype
