The Registrar’s Office will register each student for BUS 399 at 12-credit hours. This is a placeholder course which shows that you are still a full-time student at the University of Illinois. After we receive your transcripts from your host institution, the BUS 399 will still appear on your schedule but for 0 hours and the courses you take abroad will be transferred as BUS 388 for credit with appropriate sections, course number, and title for course articulations for degree requirements/credits.
Students will be automatically enrolled in LAS 291/292.
Students must enroll in a sufficient amount of courses directly at the host university to be considered a full-time student. This must convert to a minimum of 12 UIUC credit hours.
Students are also allowed to register for up to 1 UIUC online courses at no additional cost. This does not count toward your full-time status at your host university.
There are specific sections of some business courses available to Gies students, or you can choose anyone online course. You are not required to take any online courses while abroad, other than the mandatory LAS 291/292 course.
You will register for you courses once you arrive in Leuven by completing a form on campus and submitting it to your academic advisor in Leuven. To get an idea of what courses may be offered click here. Course offerings cannot be guaranteed. Students may choose between the undergraduate and some graduate courses. Graduate courses that are available will be clearly marked in red or green. Graduate courses can be difficult- make sure you read through the prerequisite requirements to ensure you have the fundamentals needed for the course. Students must have completed 90 credit hours; however, sometimes exceptions have been made depending on a student’s circumstance.
You can attend any courses you want for the first 2 weeks. After that you will officially register for your courses. They do not put a capacity on courses, so it is very likely you will get into whichever courses you choose. This is a great and unique benefit at this university!
Students may also choose from the PECS course list (non-business classes). If you do choose one of these courses, Leuven requires spring participants stay on campus until at least the first week of June in order to take early exams.
You can take courses at the Leuven, Brussels, or Antwerp campus. You can only choose 1 campus for your courses unless you select the Business and Economics in Europe program which has a set list of courses to choose from at all 3 locations.
KU allows for distance exams to be taken if the end of the semester conflicts with the start of an internship.
Internship contract with start date must be provided to the KU Leuven coordinator as soon as possible.
You cannot leave before the end of classes nor the first week of June (depending on the classes you take).
Distance exams will take place at the same time and date as exams take place in Leuven. In case of difficulties with the different time zones, they will try to arrange an alternate time.
Your distance exams will be proctored online through ProctorU or another method determined by Gies Global if necessary.
You cannot choose the date and time of your exams.
You may need to request time off from your internship to take exams at the required time.
