강의 제목
Unveiling the Cellular Defense: Mitochondria and Autophagy in Blood-Brain Barrier Vulnerability to External Stressors
강의 내용
This lecture explores the mechanisms and significance of blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption caused by exogenous substances such as particulate matter and biocidal compounds in consumer products. For example, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) induce coagulant activity in red blood cells (RBCs) and excessive erythrophagocytosis, impairing BBB function. Additionally, the biocide CMIT/MIT damages mitochondrial function in brain endothelial cells and promotes oxidative stress and tight junction loss through autophagy imbalance. Examining these pathways provides insight into the cardiovascular and neurological risks these exogenous agents pose to BBB integrity and systemic health.
