Lecture Title
Optical Imaging and Manipulation of Brain Capillary Flow
Lecture Content
Brain capillaries play a central role in maintaining neural functions by controlling molecular traffic through an interface between blood and brain tissue (i.e., blood-brain barrier). To better understand the regulatory dynamics of capillary flow, we employed optical imaging techniques (i.e., genetic sensors and two-photon microscopy) and optogenetic tools. The major findings are that the capillary flow is dynamically linked to the distribution of blood cells in the capillary network, and in close communication with perivascular cells (e.g., capillary pericytes and microglia).
