A drama workshop was organized by the Department of English, MKBU for the performance of Final Solutions by Mahesh Dattani, under the guidance of Alpa Ma’am. The workshop aimed to explore the play through performance and to develop a deeper understanding of its themes, characters, and socio-political context. Students actively participated in script reading, scene enactments, and group discussions, which helped them engage with the text in a practical and meaningful way.
As part of the performance, I portrayed the character of Hardika, an elderly figure in the play. This role allowed me to understand the emotional depth and historical perspective of the character, especially in relation to memory, identity, and communal tension. Performing Hardika helped me work on aspects such as voice modulation, body language, and age-specific characterization. The workshop as a whole enhanced my confidence, acting skills, and appreciation of drama as both a literary form and a performative art.
To strengthen students’ preparation for university examinations, the Department of English, MKBU regularly organizes academic support sessions focusing on answer writing and evaluation. Under the guidance of Dilip Barad Sir, along with Prakruti Ma’am and Megha Ma’am, students’ internal exam papers are carefully reviewed. This process enables learners to recognize their errors, understand the expectations of examiners, and improve the structure and clarity of their answers. It also helps students develop a more systematic and thoughtful approach to writing in examinations.
In continuation of this effort, an Essay Type Answer Analysis Workshop is conducted to enhance students’ writing skills. The workshop emphasizes the development of strong arguments, proper organization of ideas, and clarity in expression. Through detailed discussions and constructive feedback, students learn how to frame well-structured, analytical responses. Overall, the session plays a significant role in improving academic writing and building confidence for final examinations.
In preparation for the Youth Festival organized by Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, the Department of English conducted a Sangeet Talim Shibir (Music Training Workshop) to train and guide students participating in cultural events. I actively participated in the singing competition training, where I received valuable exposure to different forms of music. The workshop provided an opportunity to learn and appreciate various genres such as Shashtriya Sangeet (Classical Music), Sugam Sangeet, and Folk Music, helping me develop a deeper understanding of musical expression and performance techniques.
During the workshop, I was fortunate to learn under the guidance of Bhavnaben Pathak, Vishnu Sir, Kalapi Pathak, and Pranav Pandya, who shared their expertise and encouraged us to improve our vocal skills and stage confidence. The training also provided me with the opportunity to perform a song on stage, which enhanced my confidence and practical experience. Overall, the workshop was highly enriching, as it nurtured both my musical abilities and my confidence as a performer.
