অসংখ্য মানুষের সামনে (শিল্পী, ফোটোগ্রাফার, সাধারণ মানুষ, সাধারণ দর্শক) অসংখ্য ছবি ফেলে দেখেছি, তারা সবাই ছবিতে কিছু একটা চিনে নিতে চায়, কিছু একটা মিলিয়ে নিতে চায়; এইটা তো ঐটা, এইটা সেইটা, এইটা সেখানে, এইটা ওখানে, এইটা সেই লোকটা না, এটাকে কি যেনো বলে? এইটা কোথায় পেলে? ওখানে কবে গেলে? এইটাতে কি এমন আছে? ইত্যাদি।

এই যে ছবিতে কিছু একটা চিনে নেওয়ার তাড়না, কিছু একটা চিনিয়ে দেওয়ার দায় -আমি এটা থেকে বেরুতে চাই।

I have placed countless photographs in front of numerous people (artists, photographers, ordinary people, ordinary viewers) and observed them. They all try to recognize something in the photographs, to match something; this is that, this is like that, this is there, this is here, isn’t this that person, what do you call this? Where did you get this? When did you go there? What’s so special about this? And so on.

This urge to recognize something in a photograph. This obligation to make something recognizable—I want to break free from it.
