As per the March Meeting...

The Pro Vita Mass of the Diocese of Brooklyn (originally scheduled for Sunday, January 25, but postponed due to the blizzard that blew in that day) has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 26, at St. James Cathedral-Basilica. Knights interested in attending should contact the Grand Knight for further information.
The Council was reminded by Outside Guard Luis Cruz that the 2026 MS Walk will be held on April 26. A proposal was considered and approved to make a donation to the MS Walk on behalf of our Brother Knight and his "Team Cruzin' for a Cure."
A number of parishioners from St. Brendan's have begun to organize themselves into a Fundraising Committee, for the general financial benefit of the Parish, and the particular goal of raising money for the anticipated HVAC replacement project. They are currently in the preliminary stages of organizing what they hope will become a series of Bingo Nights. Any Knights interested in contributing to the work of the Fundraising Committee should contact the Financial Secretary for further information.
A preliminary proposal was introduced to consider the possibility of the Council sponsoring a Lenten/Easter collection of items which would be of benefit for Rachel's Joy Maternity Home, which has long been a beneficiary of St. Brendan's Parish during the Christmas Season. Knights are encouraged to await further updates from the Grand Knight on this proposed initiative.
Knights are reminded that Easter will be celebrated next month. Knights are encouraged to make use of the remaining weeks of Lent to better prepare themselves for the solemn, joy-filled mysteries of the Paschal Season.

The Council is pleased to note that the winners of the "Keep Christ in Christmas" Art Contest at St. Brendan's will be awarded their prizes on Sunday, February 22, following the 10am Mass. Hospitality will be offered. All Knights are asked to assist at this effort, as available.

As we begin the New Year, Knights are reminded of the words of the Supreme Knight, Patrick E. Kelly, calling for Knights to be "Heralds of Hope", with a special focus on: Spiritual Formation - Prayer Life, reception of the Sacraments, personal development in the faith; Service to Others - in a special way, service to the most vulnerable among us; Community Engagement - with the community at large, with our parish, and with each other; and Patriotism. In all things, Knights are reminded of our call to Faith and Fraternity.

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 notes that St. Edmund's Elementary School will be hosting a "Knight at the Races" fundraiser in support of their school on Friday, January 30. Knights may remember that there was an attempt at this fundraiser during the previous school year, spearheaded by the parents of children enrolled in the school. As St. Edmund's is paired with St. Brendan's, Knights are encouraged to attend and assist, as this could be an opportunity for recruitment, to say nothing of the opportunity to support the valuable work of Catholic education. The Council is pleased to note that there were some entries in the "Keep Christ in Christmas" Art Contest which the Council offered as an opportunity for the St. Brendan's Parish Faith Formation program. Knights interested in judging the entries for prizes should contact the Grand Knight. Winners will be announced on Sunday, January 25.
A proposal was considered and approved to hold a Valentine's Day Movie fundraiser on Sunday, February 8. We will be showing the 1955 animated film, "Lady and the Tramp", following the conclusion of the 10am Mass. Knights are encouraged to support this effort.
Preliminarily, the Council is looking to do another "Pasta Night" fundraiser, sometime in the Spring.

As we continue through the remainder of the Season of Advent, Knights are reminded of the importance of properly preparing for Christmas, and of their obligation as Catholic gentlemen to set a good example for their families in attending to their Sunday and Holyday obligations. St. Bernard Council No. 14269 is hosting a Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 17, at 6:30pm. Knights from other Councils and their families are most welcome. In keeping with the invitation to Knights' families, St. Bernard Council is pleased to note that they will have a special guest from the North Pole 🎅🏻 ... The admission to the Party is one unwrapped toy per guest. We recommend a minimum value of $10-15 per toy. Interested Knights are advised to contact Financial Secretary Joe Lanni to RSVP, no later than December 13.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 is pleased to note that we sold out of Christmas Wreaths. The "Keep Christ in Christmas" magnets were not quite as popular with our retail customers, but we were able to wholesale the excess supply to neighboring councils. We thank those Knights who contributed to our sales efforts and, of course, to our loyal customers for their purchases.
Related to our Christmas sales, a motion was considered and passed to donate a portion of the profit to St. Brendan's Parish.
The Council is once again pleased to note that it will be sponsoring the "Keep Christ in Christmas" Art Contest for the St. Brendan's Parish Faith Formation program. The contest winners will be selected on Epiphany. Related to this effort, a motion was considered and passed to obtain gift cards as prizes for the winners.
Looking ahead, Council No. 294 was informed by our Outside Guard, Luis Cruz, that the 2026 MS Walk will be held on April 26 of that year.

St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 notes the availability of C & B Rafflebooks, for the benefit of the State Council and our local council. Knights are encouraged to consider participating. Knights interested in obtaining books, or seeking more information, should contact the Grand Knight.
The Council is pleased to note that it will be sponsoring the "Keep Christ in Christmas" Art Contest at St. Brendan's Parish. We encourage all young artists in the Faith Formation program to participate.
Council No. 294 is pleased to announce that we will once again be selling Christmas Wreaths, beginning at the Parish Christmas Fair on December 6 & 7, and continuing for as long as supplies last. The Council notes the importance of this, our main fundraiser, and encourages all Knights to participate, either as constructors or sellers of wreaths (and, of course, as buyers... 😉). All Knights are asked to convey their availability for "wreath duty" (preliminary construction to begin on December 5, and the aforementioned activities on December 6 & 7) to the Financial Secretary.
In conjunction with the wreaths, the Council will also be selling "Keep Christ in Christmas" car magnets. To this end, a motion regarding the wholesale purchase of a supply of said magnets was considered and approved.
Anticipating the continuation of the Council's wreath sale beyond the initial December 6 & 7 weekend, a motion was considered and passed to promote and sell tickets for a Council-based 50/50 raffle, beginning on the weekend of December 13 & 14 (so as to not interfere with the various activities of the Parish Christmas Fair), with the drawing to be held in the New Year.
Council No. 294 is pleased to note that it will once again sponsor one of the Christmas Trees that make up the exterior decorations of St. Brendan's Parish during the Christmas Season.

Knights are encouraged to consider supporting the Father Michael J. McGivney Guild, which works to promote the cause of canonization of Fr. McGivney, the founder of the Knights of Columbus. Further information about the Guild can be found HERE.
Pending formal approval from the Rectory, Council No. 294 is pleased to announce our intention to once again sell Christmas Wreaths, tentatively scheduled for December 6 & 7, and continuing as long as supplies last.

Officer Knights are advised that the Installation of Officers will be held on Sunday, October 5, following the 10am Mass. All Officer Knights are encouraged to attend, as practicable.
Knights are reminded of the universal call to holiness, and of the particularly special nature of this call to all members of our Order. We are called to deepen our relationship with God, to renew our own minds and hearts, and to then go forth in a spirit of dedication to service to God and to our neighbor.
Knights are reminded that the Food Pantry, co-sponsored by the Council and the parish Youth Ministry program, will restart on Saturday, September 27. Knights are encouraged to participate if able.

Knights are reminded of the importance of the sense of fraternity amongst the Knights of Columbus. Ours is a "Brotherhood of Service", to each other, to the Parish, to the larger community, and to the Church as a whole.
Although it is on a Summer Hiatus, Knights are reminded of the Council's continued co-sponsorship of the Food Pantry, every 4th Saturday of the month, September through June (unless otherwise noted). Knights are encouraged to participate if able.
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 salutes our Worthy Chaplain, SK Rev. Sam Korkordi, on the 15th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood, and our Worthy Advocate, SK Alex DeMarchena, PGK, on his entrance into the Seminary. The Council thanks all of our Brother Knights who were able to attend this month's meeting and dual commemoration of these two Knights.
As per the July Meeting...
St. Brendan - Morning Star Council No. 294 began the new Columbian year with particular enthusiasm, and once again congratulates all of its newly elected officers for the 2025-2026 Columbian year.
Knights are reminded that the advent of a new Columbian year means that the annual dues are indeed due. Payments and/or questions should be directed to Financial Secretary Joe Lanni or Grand Knight Patrick Turturro.
Officer Knights are asked to give some thought to possible dates for the Installation of Officers, ideally for some time in September or October.
Knights are reminded of the foundational Columbian principles of Charity and Fraternity, and are encouraged to seek out opportunities to exemplify these principles, as this will help to strengthen the Council, the Parish, and ourselves as Catholic gentlemen.
Knights are reminded of the importance of recruitment, both by formal action and by general example. Knights should be the sort of parishioners that other parishioners can look to emulate. This is ultimately a collective effort, and all members of the Council are called upon to live out the best example of Catholic manhood as possible.
Knights are encouraged to consider the Council's fundraising efforts: What can be done to strengthen existent fundraisers? What new fundraising opportunities could be pursued?
Although it is on a Summer Hiatus, Knights are reminded of the Council's continued co-sponsorship of the Food Pantry, every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, September through June (unless otherwise noted). Knights are encouraged to participate if able. The Council is pleased to report that new leads have developed for sources which may be able to provide fresh food, in addition to the non-perishables provided by Catholic Charities.

The Long Island Assembly will be hosting their Annual Summer Mass & BBQ on Saturday, August 2, at Baron DeKalb Council No. 1073 (3000 Emmons Ave.). Mass at 11:30am, followed by the barbecue at 12:30pm. Cost is $35 per person; RSVP by July 27. Contact Deputy Grand Knight SK Dcn. Bob Cosgrove KCHS for further information.
In response to the flooding in Texas, District 36 has been in contact with its constituent councils, of which Council No. 294 is one, seeking donations to aid those in need. The Council approved a motion to donate $200 for this effort.
