6th Grade
General Info
In Sixth Grade Band we are continuing to expand on instrumental technique and knowledge in striving for mastery of musical concepts.
Students will develop fundamental skills with Habits of a Successful Middle School Musician and Essential Elements Book One and Two. They will also have the opportunity to interact with Grade 1.5-2.5 concert band music.
There will be opportunities for students to showcase their abilities in perform as a soloist and with others.
Students will participate in Pass Offs, where they will perform a variety of pieces to demonstrate mastery. The more Pass Offs completed, the further the student will progress in their book.
Starting in sixth grade, band students at KMS can audition for the All-State Band. See information below!
Middle School All-State Band
The Georgia Music Educators Association conducts an audition to find the very best musicians in the state of Georgia. Students in sixth through eighth grade have the opportunity to audition for the GMEA Middle School All-State Band. The All-State Band audition is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their abilities, auditioning with the highest achieving young musicians in the state. If they pass their first-round district level audition, students will be invited to participate in the District Honor Band and the second-round state level audition.
