In this session, we will examine the vital role of school counselors in recognizing suicide warning signs, conducting evidence-based risk assessments, and creating comprehensive return-to-school plans for students. A special segment will feature Gloria Kim, a school counselor from Jeju Island, who will share her expertise on incorporating cultural factors into suicide prevention and intervention strategies. Participants will be introduced to effective risk assessment tools and will engage in case study discussions to evaluate risk levels and determine appropriate interventions. We will also explore the complexities of self-harm behaviors and their impact on student risk levels. Attendees will leave with practical templates and resources to support best practices in suicide assessment and safety planning, ensuring the well-being of students and the broader school community. This session aims to empower school counselors with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools needed to effectively identify, assess, and support at-risk students.
