With most of our classes online and little to no physical interaction with our peers or faculty, it was undoubtedly a first-year experience all too different. However, the year did have its perks. Whether it be pretty sunsets, the surprise at seeing how tall or short someone actually is after only seeing them across a screen, or seeing my friends shed tears after they're stabbed with a cotton swab in their nose, I have learned to celebrate the joy in the small moments.
I completed around 30 hours of community service through UC's Bearcat Buddies, data entry at Heaven's Gain Ministries, and Property Projects at the West Side Salvation Army. Moreover, I also participated and won first place in HOSA's Health Career Photography Event at the Ohio State Leadership Conference. I also had the incredible opportunity of serving as our chapter's Secretary the past spring semester.
Without getting traditional closure with high school, the start to college life seemed whimsical. Though online learning had its downfalls, it inevitably eased the transition from school to college. I was able to hone myself as a student. I refined study methods, time and stress management, and critical thinking skills.
