The vision as outlined on the home page is simple really...
I have knowledge of a world where I can help Maori achieve. It all begins with our People. If I can contribute to getting to know a community and showing them how to rely on their existing networks, then we can begin change. The change begins with the knowledge of networking, then it becomes a teaching of how to use the networks available to our people, then all our people have to do jump into creating their pathway towards their own future using those very networks they relied on in the first place.
Today, Maori are so divided and realistically, our people seem to be trying to achieve by themselves instead of their communities providing valuable support and by support, I do not mean monetary. Monetary gains come later.
I want to be involved in the re-connection of our people in teaching and showing them about the importance of networking with a view to employment/education and ultimately becoming more self-reliant in that Mana is restored.
Amongst that, I have interesting ideas of how to use the system to benefit Maori and would like to pass this on to our people always fighting the system. This includes re-connecting the people so an incarcerated person can rely on these relationships to gain freedom and know they are supported within whanau and broader networks.
I also want to be involved in the changing of the mindset of the adult generation of today in that our future, lies with our rangatahi. In turn, our rangatahi must understand how important and validated they are to us adults. If we can change the mindset of the adults who are leading our kids, then the likelihood of success will come. Generally, kids need simple things such as validation and working through the many issues they face today.
I want our people to learn how to think outside the square. A good example is this, my CV for Te Kohao Health. Why not roll into an interview with a website CV instead of 2-3 pages of boring? We are at a time where we can define the future. Covid19 has effectively set us back to 0 and opened up many opportunities to be creative.
To be honest, I see success in Ngaruawahia. We have a great network here which people are finding it hard to penetrate. We have nurses, we have engineers, we have hospitality, we have sports, we have construction and most of all, we have labouring. Imagine networking with all the people involved in these employment fields, ultimately working together to secure learning pathways or open up new jobs for this community and ultimately, provide support as a community to our future... our Rangatahi.
I wont lie, I have told a few people of my visions and have been met with certain walls and discouragement but in my mind, it only takes one person to plant a seed. I want to be involved in every way I can to plant a seed and nourish it to watch it grow.
I do not want to create a black lives matter group, I want to create a movement. Nevermind America, let's make Aotearoa Maori great again.
