June 13, 1924-Aug. 6, 2009

Robert G. Shaw, 85, of Frazee, died Thursday, August 6. 2009 at the Frazee Care Center.

Robert Glen Shaw was born to Glen and Louise (Schmelz) Shaw on June 13, 1924 in Fosston, Minn. He grew up and graduated from high school in Frazee. After graduation, he farmed with his parents and hauled cream for the Frazee Creamery.

Bob married Helen Johnson July 1, 1946 in Frazee. They operated their own dairy farm south of Frazee until 1963, when health issues forced Robert to choose a different career.

Bob attended the Detroit Lakes Business College, after which he and Helen moved to Fergus Falls, where he served as the deputy county assessor and as Otter Tail County treasurer. They later moved to St. Paul, and then to Vancouver and Olympia, Wash., where he was a right-of-way appraiser for the highway departments in those communities. He and Helen both retired in 1984 and spent their summers at their lake home near Brainerd, and their winters traveling in their RV, mostly near New Braunfels, Texas.

In 2000 they moved back to a new home in the town that, in their hearts, they never really left -- Frazee.

Bob had been a resident of the Frazee Retirement Center for the past several years -- but his heart was always with the soil, as a farmer and as the keeper of beautiful yards at the various places where he and Helen lived. He loved his yards and plants, traveling, golf, friends and family.

Surviving Bob are his wife, Helen Shaw of Frazee, a son, Larry (Judy) Shaw of Pillager, Minn.; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Lenius of Apache Junction, Ariz. His parents preceded him in death.

A mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Aug. 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee.
