Jan 20-7:30pm Program night with Donna Severson: her 2016 adventures in Cuba with the folks from National Geographic
About Donna Severson:
I became serious about photography 12 years ago when I retired from Tektronix. My travels outside of the United States for golf and vacationing have afforded me the opportunities to capture moments that most people won’t see. Like the majority of amateur photographers I am self-taught and love shooting with and learning from those photographers I’m able to hang with. Dubai and Africa were the destinations for my last trip and the wonders of what man can build on a pile of sand and what Nature has to show us amongst the wildlife is pretty amazing.
My objective for photography is to have a goal for every shot I take and most times I’m proud to say I achieve my goal. However, we all strive for that perfect shot..I’m still looking for mine.
I recently traded in all my Canon equipment for a Sony mirrorless. I’m learning all over again due to additional bells and whistles on the camera but I find that no matter the technology the beauty is still thru the viewfinder. I am fortunate enough to have been published in The Oregonian, a local magazine cover, have a permanent piece hanging at the Oregon Convention Center and a current 6 month showing of 26+ pieces at the OSHU Wellness Center at the South Waterfront.
Cuba - Visited Havana in 2016 with National Geographic (I had to pay them to take me :) . It was an experience photographing with 16 other photographers who sometimes didn’t understand “photographers etiquette” of Not Getting In The Shot! The citizens of Cuba don’t have it easy but they don’t know what they don’t have. Everything they have in life they appreciate and greet visitors with warm hearts and big smiles. My goal in sharing my Cuba work with people is that they see the beauty of Cuba and it’s people.
