Scholarly research is the process of conducting research in a professional manner. It is performed to examine a "gap" in a field of research.
Determining a gap requires foundational knowledge on the subject, including a close reading of many peer-reviewed journals, which are research articles approved by scholars in the field of study.
To gain a background in kinematics, the study of motion, I used the EBSCO research database to search for peer-reviewed journals, adding keywords to specify the search process, as shown below.
After starting with a broad interest in the physics of motion, I narrowed my research focus to motion specific in martial arts.
I verified that a body of martial arts kinematics research existed by quickly searching on EBSCO.
I evaluated sources' credibility through the acronym RAVEN, as explained in the subpage.
