We’ve been talking a lot about God’s promise from the very beginning to send a Savior to rescue His people from sin.

We have learned about the following people in Jesus’ family tree:

Adam & Eve, Seth, Noah and his son Shem, Abraham and Sarah, and their son Isaac.

They were all messy people…but God was always faithful to keep His promise. We have been celebrating God’s faithfulness through Psalm 100:5. 

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

We followed the story of Abraham and how God promised to make his children and grand children a great nation. He was very old when he had Isaac, and then when Isaac was a young boy, God Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. If Abraham did this, how would the promise of a Savior continue?

Abraham obeyed God's command because he trusted God. At the last minute, God stopped Abraham and provided an animal to be sacrificed Instead. This allowed the family line leading to Jesus to continue, because when Isaac grew up, he married a woman named Rebekah and had twin sons named Esau and Jacob. They were both messy, sinful people, but God continued to be faithful and send a Savior to rescue His people through Jacob.

All of the people in the story were messy, or sinful. Remember that sin is anything we think, say, or do that doesn’t please God. Would God’s promise keep going? God continued His promise through the next generation.

God promises to rescue messy people.

Adam needed a Savior.

Noah needed a Savior.

Abraham needed a Savior.

Isaac needed a Savior.

Jacob needed a Savior.

We need a Savior too.

God kept His promise and sent Jesus. Jesus loves us. Jesus never sinned. Jesus came to rescue us from our sin. God promises to rescue messy people! And he does through Jesus!
