Portfolio Assignment: Mapping Out Implementation

Reflection: Digital Age Learning

ISTE Standard 2

ISTE Standard 2 for calls for the educational administrator to promote and sustain a digital age learning culture through instructional practices, learning-centered environments, and learning communities that extend beyond the boundaries of the district. As an educational technology leader, my strengths lie in having a clear understanding of the possibilities of how technology tools can create this learning environment through my local, state, and national learning communities.

One of the ways that I have demonstrated this leadership is through the facilitation of the Future Ready Leadership team that is working on the 5 steps of Future Ready planning. Being experienced in using and modeling technology has allowed me to provide insight into the variety of district initiatives that are and are not meeting the personalized learning needs of students. Having a district-level team that represents all stakeholders has the potential of having honest conversations on how to move the bar so that the culture is truly incorporating digital tools as part of how we work as an organization. The planning is still in the data collection phase and beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the team will begin aligning current initiatives with two gears of the Future Ready framework to start action planning for more personalized experiences for students. My ability to lead this team with my skill set and knowledge of what is possible is a strength.

The area of growth for me within this ISTE Standard is to have more of a direct connection to ensure that instructional innovation and effect practices are being used. I am capable of promoting, providing, and modeling, however, I do not have a way to ensure that it is happening in my current position. There is no system in place that allows for me to close the continuous improvement loop and this is an area that I need to improve upon. My next step is to create a system that allows me to have a more direct connection to classrooms.
