ISTE Standard 3
Excellence in professional practice is an ISTE Standard for Administrators that I have many strengths because it involves so much of what I do on a daily basis. I have a great degree of personal and professional proficiency in developing my own technology fluency, participation in learning communities, effectively communicating and collaborating with digital tools, and staying current on emerging trends and research around the effective use of technology to improve learning. My strengths are demonstrated through the ongoing and constant push to use the Google Suite of tools as our primary mode of communicating and collaborating across the district by all stakeholders. This has taken several years of promoting, modeling, training, and coaching and Google now has a strong foothold within the organization as the way to work on a daily basis. I am fortunate that I control my own department budget and have the resource of funding support to ensure ongoing professional growth for the teachers in my district. With encouragement and support, site administrators have also taken advantage of these opportunities. I’ve created a culture that provides continuous support for all stakeholders and an environment of professional learning.
An area of growth in ISTE Standard 3 is providing access to innovative and contemporary technologies and digital resources for teachers to enhance student learning. It feels like I have spent the last couple of years building the infrastructure support that I have not pursued truly innovative practices and trends that could have a significant impact on student learning. My next steps are to work with teachers and administrators that I have an established relationship with and collaborate on how to bring in more innovative practices that can be measured for effectiveness.
