Swimming 101

High School Swim Meet Basics for Parents

Reminders:

• Meets are about $8 per person but they are FREE to you if you are volunteering.

• Parents must remain in the designated spectator areas and are NOT allowed on the pool deck, unless volunteering.

• All parents are expected to volunteer at least once per season. If you’re volunteering, you will need to check in. If you are volunteering as a timer, remember no phone use or photography behind the block for swimmer privacy reasons.

• No horns or loud noise makers are allowed during the meet.

• If you have a concern or grievance, please contact coach directly first.

Order of Events:

All meets follow the same order of events. Events will be heats of Varsity Women, JV Women, Varsity Men then JV Men.

• 200 Medley Relay

• 200 Free

• 200/100 IM

• 50 Free (the only event with two heats)

• 100/50 Fly

• 100 Free

• 500 Free (Varsity only)

• 200 Free Relay

• 100 Backstroke

• 100 Breaststroke

• 400 Free Relay (Varsity only)

Heat sheets will be emailed, sent via Parent Square, and posted to FB the day before the meet (usually).

Transportation:

Swimmers are responsible for transportation to/from all swim meets. Bus transportation is not provided. All swimmers will be required to be on time and ready to swim when warm- ups start. Plan to be at the meet 15-20 minutes before warm-ups. Swimmers need to check in and out with one of the coaches.

Parking:

On Saturday meets, we can park at the dirt lot at the ICAC. The front lot is reserved for members and officials. We are also able to park at Sapidyne (700 W Diamond St, Boise ID). At the West Y, there is usually street parking or a side parking lot down the street. At the Nampa Rec Center, there is a dirt lot next to it that will provide parking.

Uniforms:

Swimmers should be in their team suit or a plain black suit that is a USA swim approved race suit and their team cap. Team Suits can be purchased at SwimOutlet.com.
