MRA is compelled to replace the Motorola Quantars, after the carrier lock problems on both, and complete failure of the spare. Currently KG4MRA is back on the main Quantar, which is behaving for now. This past week, MRA BOD moved forward with purchase of 2x Yaesu DR-2X repeaters to replace the Quantars (perhaps retain the ~working main Quantar as another backup/spare). Those DR-2X's will arrive this coming week according to Yaesu.
MRA, unlike the several other groups in the Richmond area, has a very limited treasury reserve, ~$2000, which this DR-2X upgrade will completely consume. MRA is very frugal, and enjoys low operating expenses annually, but there are ~$1000/year in basic operational costs (SEC, insurance, etc.).
MRA BOD members have volunteered to donate (~$200 each) to help prevent bankruptcy, but funding for MRA is rather much at a long term low.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO KEEP THE MRA AFLOAT!?
If you are new to the Richmond area, and using KG4MRA repeater, please consider formally joining the MRA and paying your 2020 annual dues (which is the low price dues amongst its peers at $15/year).
If you are a current or past member of MRA, please be sure you are paid up for 2020, and if so, consider prepaying for 2021. MRA only has ~60 active and current 2020 dues paid members on the roster.
Like me, many forget to renew their RARC, RATS, PARC, etc. annual dues until some reminder (like FrostFest). So if you find yourself in that category today, please help us immediately. The address to mail your checks is:
Metropolitan Repeater Association (MRA)
P. O. Box 4978
Glen Allen, VA 23058
Lastly, if you can, please consider any donation you might make to MRA, along with your annual dues (bump up $5 or $10 for this year).
MRA is looking forward to the new digital modes of Yaesu Fusion, and we have plans for linking MRA to other repeaters within the Fusion arena.
