Volvo Partnership with Aurora Self-Driving to create Autonomous Trucks

In this project Volvo Trucks partnered with Aurora Self-Driver to provide an autonomous truck. This project was created to take the expertise of Volvo in building trucks and autonomous expertise in creating autonomous drivers that can integrate with Volvo Trucks.

Bridge Inspection Work

This shows autonomous flight along the VTTI Smart road bridge at Virginia Tech. The flight is fully autonomous and shows different subroutines for traversing a bridge.

Plant Height Estimation using UAVs

This project we use a 3D LiDAR mounted on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to estimate the height of crops. By doing this we can supplement the data given to farmers or researchers on the health of crops and further more provide data that was previously unobtainable or costly to obtain.

Path Planning with Energy Limited UAVs

Here is an autonomous mission done over a 300m x 110m plot of land. The full flight, take-off, and landing is autonomous. We manually swap batteries to simulate a recharging station on our Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV). This flight took 23 minutes and was done over 50 Points of Interest (POI).

Plume Detection

We fly autonomously over a lake which contains a florescent dye that acts as a plume. We can detect areas on a body of water which contains foreign substances and then map those areas. By doing this we can speed up oil spill detection as well as the clean up processes.
