Kihon (基本, きほん) is a Japanese term meaning "basics" or "fundamentals." The term is used to refer to the basic techniques that are taught and practiced as the foundation of most Japanese martial arts.
The practice and mastery of kihon is essential to all advanced training, includes the practice of correct body form and breathing while practicing basics such as stances, punches, kicks, blocks, and thrusts. It also includes basic representative kata.
Kihon techniques are practiced regularly, and form a key part of almost every training session. They are considered fundamental to mastery and improvement of all movements of greater complexity
Rising Block
Age-uke (上げ受け), which translates to "rising block", or "upward block" is taught to deflect an attack coming towards your head
Outside Block
Soto-uke (外受け) which translates to "Outside block" is taught to deflect an attack coming towards your chest pushing the incoming attack across your body deflecting it away.
Inside Block
Uchi-Uke (内 腕 受 け) which translates to "Inside block" is another block to deflect an attack towards your chest. as the name implies this block initiates close to the body and drives outwards.
Downwards Block
Gedan-barai (下段払い) which translates to "Downwards Block" is used to defend against a kick attack starting high and sweeping down across your body to maximise impact.
Front Kick
mae-geri (前蹴り) which translates to "Front Kick" is used to to strike your opponent. to achieve this you bring your knee up to your belt hight, extend the leg to strike, retract the leg and then step forward. This allows you to place the kick in the location that you want and retain control
