5th Year students receiving their Gaisce Awards from Mary Morrissey and PJ Murrihy
The wellbeing of our students and teachers is extremely important here at Kilrush Community School. We have a very active Pastoral Care team and our Student Support Services will meet the needs of your son or daughter.
Each student has a class tutor and a year head who will look after the year group in terms of academic progress and discipline issues.
2nd Years Surfing in Achill
A whole-school approach means that wellbeing is promoted and supported across all subjects and classrooms. Wellbeing forms part of the curriculum as a stand-alone subject in 1st year. Other subjects within the Wellbeing Programme include SPHE, CSPE, Guidance and PE. These form part of the new Junior Cycle programme which places a large emphasis on wellbeing as part of the curriculum. The wellbeing classes provide an opportunity for students to learn many skills including social skills, mindfulness, internet safety, and taking care of myself.
Hair Dye Fundraiser for Mental Health Week
A variety of events throughout the year also promote wellbeing across the school community. For example:
Mental Health Week
Stand Up Week
Christmas Concert
Fundraisers
Cyber Safety Talks
School visits e.g. Community Garda
Retreats and school outings
Sports and Wellbeing Day
The Wellbeing indicators provide an overview of the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students are moving towards achieving in support of their wellbeing and shows what is important for students, teachers, parents and the wider school community.
