I have loved being part of committee this year and would love the opportunity to build on the amazing work Paediatric Society currently does and create new long-lasting initiatives as your VP.
EXPAND AND CREATE:
- Introduce a mentorship scheme to increase students’ exposure to paediatrics and give them the opportunity for personalised support and research opportunities.
- Continue the mini-interview series and include paediatric trainees to improve student insight into training.
- Create a journal club to support students in developing an understanding of clinical research
SUPPORT:
- Work with the SABL, BSF and TBH teams to support the return of the schemes by creating a volunteering handbook detailing the safety measures we will put in place as a society to protect our members, the best ways to travel to volunteering sites and what students can expect from the schemes next academic year.
- Work with KCLSU to facilitate in-person socials (where restrictions allow) in conjunction with our hugely successful virtual events to help us continue to be a welcoming environment for all and create a strong sense of community amongst members.
- Continued collaboration- repeat the hugely popular PT6 series as well as organise events with other societies.
I have been the Lewisham BSF Officer this past year. Although we couldn’t run the scheme, I have been proactive in engaging with the society’s other incredible work. After suggesting we start a mini-interview series, I helped launch Your Questions: Answered by sourcing speakers, collating student questions and hosting. Being part of conference committee with such a proactive wonderful team showed us what incredible things we are capable of as a society when we work together. I secured last-minute speakers, created a conference speaker guide and liaised with KCL Estates.
As the MSA Sponsorship Officer this year, I adapted to the continuously evolving economic climate and secured over £3000, created long-term partnerships with local businesses and organised free academic events with medical education organisations. As part of the GP Society events team, I ran a virtual OSCE series that was attended by hundreds of medical students across the country.
