I have loved being part of committee this year and would love the opportunity to support the society by securing funds and managing our finances. I would make use of the contacts I have gained in my work on the MSA to seek innovative sponsorship opportunities for the society such as discounts for external academic events and resources, in addition to traditional monetary support. Introducing new opportunities such as newsletter and website advertisements would allow us to secure further funding from sponsors which could be reinvested into other aspects of the society’s work.
As a BSF volunteer in my first year, I know how rewarding participating in the society’s volunteering schemes are. By working with the outreach officer, I would facilitate widening participation within the schemes by introducing travel reimbursement for eligible volunteers. To support students with a keen interest in paediatrics, I would like to create grants for students undertaking paediatric research or electives. This, alongside the introduction of essay competitions in collaboration with the academic events and research officers, would allow the society to further support students in developing strong portfolios whilst also exploring the wonderful field of paediatrics beyond the curriculum!
I have been the Lewisham BSF Officer this past year. Although we couldn’t run the scheme, I have been proactive in engaging with the society’s other incredible work. I helped launch Your Questions: Answered by sourcing speakers, collating student questions and hosting. As a member of conference committee, I secured last-minute speakers, created a conference speaker guide and liaised with KCL Estates.
As the MSA Sponsorship Officer this year, I have experience applying for KCLSU funding and invoicing sponsors. I adapted to the continuously evolving economic climate by diversifying the MSA’s sponsorship portfolio through securing over £3000 in monetary support, creating long-term partnerships with local businesses and organising free academic events with medical education organisations. This experience gives me the skills necessary to handle the society’s finances and secure funding so we can continue to develop.
