The playground equipment here is definitely on the older side, but our kids still really enjoyed playing on it. The climber is small, but still offered enough different way to climb for the kids to have fun. There is also a merry-go-round and a tire swing that we were able to get spinning really fast. The real star of the show was the glider. I feel like this was on every elementary playground back in the 90's, but you rarely see them anymore. Our kids absolutely loved the that thing, even our 4 year old. When it came time to leave, everybody wanted one more turn on the glider!
The really cool thing about this park is how well it is integrated into downtown Weston. It is an adorable old river town with tons of shops, bars, and restaurants; there are also some great distilleries and wineries nearby. Weston is home to some very popular festivals throughout the year including an apple festival and an Irish festival. The City Park is tucked in directly behind the Main Street shops on the Northwest side of the street, and there are multiple entrances. The landscaping is beautiful and there is also a very nice basketball court and tennis/pickleball court. At first, I was really disappointed that I couldn't find bathrooms in the park, but we found them as we were leaving and I was totally impressed. The bathrooms are at the South entrance to the park on Thomas Street, and they are huge, clean and air conditioned. They are housed in the old Weston Jail, which is really cool.
This park should absolutely be part of any family visit to Weston. We came to hike in the state park, then had lunch on Main Street and finished with some time on the playground. If you haven't tried Weston as an easy day trip from Kansas City, then it's definitely worth it!
