Milo Harper
The Boy Worth the World
The Boy Worth the World
He couldn’t understand why she wanted to do this, especially after all of the risks involved. One of the doctors had even tried begging her to terminate the pregnancy, but his sister refused to terminate. She risked her life for something that wasn’t even born! Why would she choose that over herself?
She knew that he didn’t approve of her choice. She knew that and yet she still asked him to be there when it was born. His sister was practically killing herself to give birth and she wanted him there to watch her do it. It made him sick to his stomach, but she didn’t have anyone else but him. He couldn’t leave her alone…so he went.
He stayed by her side the whole time. He was there when she went into labor, he was there when her son was born, he was there when his little sister got to hold her little boy for the first time, he was there to see her smile one last time.
He was there when the heart monitor stopped beeping. He was there when they tried to save her. He was there the whole time, even when they called her dead. When the doctors told him she was gone, he didn’t want to believe it. His sister’s child screamed in the background. For a moment he blamed her little baby, for a moment he swore it was the baby’s fault. It killed her.
He wanted to blame the little boy, but he couldn’t. Not after seeing how happy his sister was when she held her little baby, his little nephew. She loved her son even if it was only for a few minutes. She gave him a big smile when his nephew wrapped his hand around her finger. She told him that she loved her brother, she said that him being there meant the world to her.
That’s why he was there. That’s why he was by her side. Because his sister meant the world to him. That’s why he hadn’t left. That’s why he was holding her son. Because he loved his sister. That’s why he refused to leave her son with the nurse. That’s why he was still happy. Because his sister loved him and her son.
She didn’t even get to name him. That part she left up to him. He had to name the tiny little boy in his arms. The little boy his sister fought the world for. He had to smile when he saw her son. He looked just like her. He had dark hair and bright blue eyes. Just like his mommy.
“She loves you Milo, don’t forget it.” He told her little boy. The baby grabbed his finger and held on.
“Mr.Williams, do you have a name for him?”
He smiled at his nephew. “Milo Harper Williams.” He said. “She loved the name Milo.”
“Harper after his mom, he looks just like her.”
Mr.Williams smiled as he cradled the little boy in his arms. Milo Harper, the boy who his mom fought the world for. Nobody believed she should do it, they all told her not to and yet she fought them every time insisting that her little baby was worth all the stars in the sky. He was her whole world. Little Milo was her world and he was going to protect her son no matter what. Milo Harper, the boy worth the world.
