Projects & Initiatives
This year’s programs invited participants to reconnect with their bodies, heritage, and the natural world through retreats, workshops, and rituals designed to nurture resilience and joy.
The work in 2023 focused on bringing people together to express themselves freely, listen deeply, and strengthen their sense of belonging, rooted in shared backgrounds and journeys.
In 2022, the foucs was on creating welcoming spaces—both online and in person—where Arabic-speaking LGBTQ+ folks could come together, share their stories, and find support in a way that felt safe and meaningful.
Community-Led Networks of Care, Resistance, and Belonging
Spanning over 15 years, these initiatives were envisioned, created, and sustained by Kawn Bader in response to the urgent and often unmet needs of LGBTQ+ individuals navigating migration, marginalization, and survival in criminalized and under-resourced contexts. Each project emerged from deep community listening, lived experience, and a refusal to let those most vulnerable go unseen or unsupported.
These were not institutional programs with large budgets or rigid mandates—they were grassroots responses built from necessity, love, and collective resilience. Whether through digital platforms, anonymous hotlines, or peer-based community hubs, these initiatives offered safety, dignity, and solidarity where formal systems failed.
