Respected professors and all my friends,
Studying at University, gave me a variety of experiences. It had made a very good intellectual difference in me. It's a place far more academically ahead than College, a place which not only educates students for jobs but also brings the wholeness in each student from brokenness, and appreciates their randomness, where all your ideas, all problems, all the issues of the world can be discussed openly. There is a respectful sense - of freedom of expression.
Studying at the Department of English - Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University had not only provided me with numerous lenses to look at and evaluate literature but also enhanced my digital skills. Apart from this, there are more than hundreds of lessons that I have learned in these years. From using digital copies (pdfs) for studying the text to making a blog as a thinking activity task to learning in a hybrid model, I got an opportunity to learn the history of English or World Literature to 21st-century digital humanities. And of course, Tagore's lines best describe my experience of studying at Department/ University.
"Where the mind is without fear and the head is nurtured with progressive thoughts;
Where knowledge is shared freely;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out with a variety of perspectives;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards ever-growing spirit of learning;"
-Rabindranath Tagore
(a bit of my edition)
I was acquainted with the functioning of various activities which are carried out at department as well as what role do students play as a senior, as a manager, a leader of any committee. I think I was at the right place where everything from the classic Elizabethan plays to present-day electronic literature, from Greek Poetics, the ideal form of tragedy or comedy to modern, postmodern and contemporary forms of experimental narratives, from soothing human relationships, to questioning and inquiring the politics of relations, from developing a particular perspective of any work of art, this Classroom took me to the multi-dimensional Derridian theory of not settling on a particular perspective. I studied literature- not only sweetness and light of all exotic worlds but also the sufferings, the disappointments and the bizarre worlds of crime. I learnt to embrace each and every challenge. I learnt many things, unlearn many things in order to relearn many things.
Thank you.
