レア度：たまに見られる
形態：中型の笠貝で、1.5㎝程度。貝殻の輪郭は円形に近い。通常、殻頂部は烏帽子状に飛び出ている（これは成長の変曲点である = 幼貝は殻が高い）。同所性のベッコウシロガイにやや似るが、より輪郭が丸く、殻表はザラザラと粗い。また、殻色はより褐色に近い。軟体部は、足の側面、頭部、頭部触角のいずれも全面的に黒い。本種は歯舌の側歯に2型がある (Sasaki & Okutani 1994)。
