Scrum in Life
In our fast paced busy lives, with so many tasks waiting to be ticked off of our to do lists, you can easily get lost. And with overflowing ideas, and things just not happening soon enough, HOW?
For my overview, I had to create content, revise my portfolio, fine tune my skills, squeeze in some fitness exercises, continue learning and building on my goals. All while consulting for a business. So how'd I do it?
Naturally, I had to take a step back and breathe. I first had to find my inner calm and allow for some clarity.
In my project management class, I was introduced to Scrum. The simplicity of the idea quickly caught on to me. Scrum has remarkably transformed me to be a more productive human being.
I was able to achieve my immediate goals by working on them in batches, or more aptly, in phases.
My first order of business was to learn the foundational concepts through field courses. As soon as I was able to get a good grasp of the basics, I then went on to learn the tools of the trade by joining in training courses and utilizing much of the instructional videos on YouTube. After all that intensive learning, it was only a matter of integrating them into my routine. Knowing that remote work can have its demands, I also managed to squeeze in a few fitness plans so I can stay in tip-top shape. All those efforts would have been in vain if I'd lost my sense of purpose, passion and direction, right? Which is why I made time for some peace and mindfulness activities so I don't lose my wit. 🧘
Oh, increments and iterations- such awesome ideas!
Imagine if I'd let the complexity of everything I had to do get to me. Ideas would turn into huge ambition (and just as quickly, lead to frustration). Nothing would have happened if I didn't start taking action. I realized that I couldn't do everything all at once. But consistency was key. I had to build on my habits, and once I got to the rhythm of those habits, they became part of my daily routine.
And so eventually, my efforts started coming into fruition. Slowly, but at a steady pace, funds were flowing in, and my goals were soon coming into light. By the end, I was able to publish content, which by the way, I hope impacts the right people; my portfolio was resplendent and my skills were a reflection of my commitment and competencies. I also got to being fit as a fiddle again, after being slouched from all the learning I was doing, Lol!
Scrum really resonated with me, and has allowed me to reinvent myself, my values and my vision. It was congruent to my beliefs. I was building my resilience and Scrum has definitely made me more adaptable to change. Coming from a much better perspective and with such a renewed purpose, I feel like the best version of myself-- Katrina Julia version 2.0!
And to have the opportunity to model that change so that other people could take inspiration from my journey is, in and of itself, a rewarding endeavor.
The universe has a magical time for everything, you just have to be ready when it happens!✨
My journey has been so fulfilling and I hope I've inspired you to take action as well.
Today I impart with you the values of patience, focus and commitment. Stay the course, and scrum on!
