I want to get in better shape and am new to working out. Where should I start?
The best place to start is with in-person training. I'll meet you exactly where you're at, even if you've never done a squat or push-up in your life. It's important to invest time into building a solid foundation. That means learning how to do exercises correctly and safely. Trying to follow a workout program without learning proper form would be like trying to build a house without making sure you're using the right supplies - may feel slower in the beginning, but definitely the safer and smarter route to go that will save you much disappointment and likely pain and/or injuries down the road.
Where do you train?
I work with clients at a small private gym in Beaverton off of Hall Blvd (contact me for address). I also train clients at their homes in select local neighborhoods. For those who prefer to workout on their own and have the experience to do so (form, technique, use of equipment), I offer online programming and coaching through the TrueCoach app (free for cleints).
Can you train me at my home if I don't have any equipment?
Yes. You don't need any fancy equipment or a home gym. I can bring some small items like dumbbells and bands, and we'll put any equipment you may have to use. If you are interested in expanding your workout options at home, I can make personal recommendations about the best and most cost-effective options for you.
Can you help me lose fat / build muscle / tone up?
Absolutely. I take an individualized approach from person to person. Together we'll look at your current lifestyle, habits, goals, and preferences and create a plan to change your body composition. This will not be an all-or-nothing dramatic change, but small tweaks we'll make one at a time, so the process is enjoyable and works with your life. I've helped clients lose 60+ pounds while maintaining or building muscle, and I've helped others gain 20+ pounds of muscle while staying lean. Reducing body fat while building muscle CAN be done simultaneously but requires a very strategic and thoughtful approach, including a well-structured resistance training plan that progresses with you and appropriate nutritional support.
Can you help me build a specific area of my body (glutes, quads, chest, arms etc.)?
Yes, just tell me what area(s) you want to grow, and I'll design your program accordingly. My continuing education has focused heavily on evidence-based strategies for muscle growth- from exercise selection and technique to training splits and volume- and I'm currently pursuing a specialty certification as a NASM Physique and Bodybuilding Coach. Whether for functionality, aesthetics, or both, my focus is on helping you feel and look your best.
How many days a week should I train?
It depends on your fitness level, experience, and whether you're looking to generally maintain your fitness, or make significant change. If you're just starting out, I recommend 2-3 workouts/week initially. After your body adapts to the increased activity, clients typically see the best results with 3-5 days/week. That said, 2/week can be perfectly suitable for maintaining long-term fitness and longevity.
What's your training style?
I love working with just about anyone who wants to improve their life through fitness. It's hard to pin down a specific style, as my approach varies from person to person. I've been described as a supportive, patient, good listener. I can also bring the energy and challenge you just enough to show you with what you're really capable of. I deliver both highly structured and methodical programming as well as fun, varied, and engaging training sessions.
The foundation of my training is centered on connecting with you as a person, not just a fitness client. I'm focused on your long-term success, not quick fixes or unsustainable habits. I see the big picture for you and take one intentional step after another to get you to places you may not have thought possible.
Lastly, I'm a life-long learner, devoted to continuing education, refining my practice, and practicing what I preach. I've worked in health and fitness my entire adult life and plan to continue for the rest of my life. Saying I'm passionate about helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives would be an understatement.
What are your credentials and qualifications?
I'm a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM), Certified in CPR and AED, and currently pursuing my NASM Physique and Bodybuilding specialization. I've been a trainer since 2015 and have helped hundreds of clients reach their fitness goals, specializing in strength training and hypertrophy. I've earned awards as a top Personal Trainer through my former gym, recognized nationally, and as a competitive powerlifter through Powerlifting America. I've led group fitness classes, from bootcamp-style training to senior fitness classes at a care facility. I've also held roles as General Manager and Fitness Director in charge of overseeing and mentoring teams of trainers. I started Katrainer, LLC in 2025, have liability insurance, and am committed to ongoing growth and education.
Can I try it out first before signing up for training?
Yes, I offer a complimentary, 1-hour intro session so you can get a feel for what training is like. We'll dive into your goals, exercise history, current roadblocks, motivation, and lifestyle factors. We'll do a short movement assessment and workout so you can get a sense of my training style and I can get a better feel of your starting point. We'll see if we're a good fit, with zero pressure to purchase. If so, we'll create a plan of action that fits your needs.
