The purpose of this page is to demonstrate my development of lessons to address all students as a result of my individualized plan of study. Attached will be demonstrations and explanations of examples of how I as an educator adapt lessons and make education more accessible.
Indicator 1: "Application of principles of human growth and development throughout life including physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development by designing appropriate learning experiences."- Movie Review Assignment
Students at different levels have different capabilities. For example, Jean Piaget developed his theory for cognitive development which attempts to explain what the different stages are and how it affects what students are capable of. In the popular movie School of Rock starring Jack Black, we can see a variety of examples if we take the time to dissect beyond the comical surface level of the movie. In a paper I wrote for EDF 619, I look at the cognitive stages of development, learning theories, theorteical explanations for motivation, as well as a few other concepts based upon education in the movie. While the movie surely is meant to serve as entertainment first and foremost, a level of study can be obtained by the movies depiction.
Indicator 2: "Developing strategies to support learners with special needs within the least restrictive environment."- Special Needs Assignment
In this document from EDF 619, a total of 6 types of students were identified as needing accommodation (cultural differences, ELL students, motor disabilities, emotional disabilities, hearing impairment, and gifted and talented). For each group, two potential accommodations are listed based on the assignment without reusing any.
Indicator 3: "Addressing the needs of diverse learners in terms of culture, race, gender, color, and language."- Article Summary Assignment
Diverse learners can encompass a variety of students involving culture, race, gender, color, and language. One study I have evaluated and broken down looked into the effect of family involvement on a minority group in education. The essay I wrote for CISP 520 is attached via the link.
