The purpose of this page is to demonstrate my content knowledge as a result of my individualized plan of study which focused on special education and mathematics. I spent my undergrad as an English major so when I started pursuing my graduate degree, I decided to broaden my horizons. Through the MAT program, I became comfortable in the classroom setting in a way I was not before.
Indicator 1: "Content knowledge in my area of emphasis"- Special Needs Assignment
The artifact chosen for this indicator is an assignment done in EDF 619. The purpose of the assignment was to be given a population of students with varying needs and challenged to accommodate them on the lesson plan provided. We were further challenged to not reuse accommodations. In order to successfully do this assignment, one has to understand the challenges of each population as well as appropriate ways to help the students.
Indicator 2: "Knowledge and skill in incorporating different viewpoints about content into the lesson."- Special Needs Assignment
As mentioned above, this assignment was done in EDF 619. There were 6 types of students presented in the assignment to which we had to accommodate. We had to understand the student and their viewpoints as well as parental needs very often in this class. This particular assignment especially focused on student needs and view points.
Indicator 3: "Knowledge and skill in engaging students in generating and demonstrating knowledge."-Lesson Plan 1
From CIME 670, we created a lesson plan for a math class. In this designed lesson plans, students are asked to actively participate by drawing shapes. These are shared and discussed. Both the creation and discussion encourages student participation. Additionally, this similar exercise is repeated following a quick lesson triangles.Â
Indicator 4: "Knowledge and skill in making their area of emphasis content meaningful to students."- Lesson Plan 1
The lesson plan from CIME 670 teaches skills easily applicable to life in or outside the classroom. Students learn quickly that their skills go beyond a worksheet that is for a grade and is something real and tangible.
