My name is Kasey Losik, and I was born in West Michigan to Kim and Andy Losik. I grew up along Lake Michigan where I grew passionate about the world around me. I dove into preparing myself for a career one day, but I didn't quite know what that would be.
Freshman year of high school is when it all clicked. While sketching a perspective drawing of my school's grand hallway, I became surrounded by my teachers. They asked me what I wanted to do when I graduated high school, and I told them I had no idea. I couldn't pick between the subjects I was passionate about like math, science, industrial art, history, and design. With that information, they began to brainstorm. One of them suggested architecture, and I saw that as the perfect combination of all of my interests.
An architect has the ability to do numerous things with their degree and license. A fantastic architect has the ability to do anything when he or she is well-rounded in the history of architecture, the math of structure and assembly, the experience of building, the science related to environmental factors, and the artistic and creative ability to design something beautiful. The latter is my goal.
After exposure to the built environment through my education and study abroad, I gathered a greater understanding and respect for the relationship between architecture and landscape architecture. I was offered a position in an accelerated Landscape Architecture Masters program and jumped at the opportunity to develop my education further.
