EDIB stands for equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Each of these are important to value in life, but particularly in the classroom. The books chosen for EDIB lesson plans cover, naturally, a diverse range of topics. Some cover historical events that can be tough to talk about with kids. Others share the stories of marginalized communities. Each lesson plan was crafted for use of a tutor in an after school program but may be adapted to use in any space. The unknown factors of a student's previous exposure and a family's beliefs was kept in mind in the creation of these lesson plans. Although some adults may be cautious to address some of these topics with young students, each book chosen was written with care and grace for exactly that audience. My hope is that these lesson plans provide tactful, productive dialogue for students to learn from and learn to love reading from.
