Among Us Myth Busters

Among Us is a video game that has recently blown up in the midst of the pandemic. In it, there are 10 crewmates who must figure out who the imposter is among them. The game involves a lot of cooperation amongst the crewmates and deception from the imposters. As some would describe, “It is a good game to lose all your friends' trust.”

With a game that has grown so quickly, there naturally arises some myths or easter eggs in the game. Here are some of the most interesting myths that you may or may not have known about Among Us.

1. Myth: You cannot make your name “muffin”.

Despite how odd it might seem at first, the game does not, in fact, let you make your name “muffin." A speculation is that the word means something else for a different part of the world. But, for citizens of the United States we can only think of these:

Furthermore, the game will not let you set your name as “taiga” or “dummy” either. The formal definition of “taiga” is “a biome characterized by coniferous forests consisting mostly of pines, spruces, and larches.” There has been no explanation from the developers as to why “taiga” is part of the censored words. Perhaps the developers had something against Minecraft?

2. Myth: If you check cameras as a ghost, you can only see the hats of other ghosts.

After testing this rumor, the myth has been confirmed. Intentional or not, it certainly makes the game more entertaining with floating hats roaming the ship.

3. Myth: In the map Mira HQ, there is a one way mirror.

The map Mira HQ actually seems to have multiple hidden features such as this one. There is a section of the map where you can hide your name.

Both of these myths have been tested and proven. I can definitely see crewmates using this to their advantage. Be careful where you kill, imposters!

4. Myth: When scanning in medbay, player’s heads will always face toward the right.

Unfortunately for the crewmates, this myth is not true. It would be a very overpowered strat to catch imposters if it were, however.

5. Myth: The amount you are able to see during the lights sabotage is directly proportional to the crewmate vision set before the game started.

It makes sense that these two factors are proportional. As little as this detail is, this feature certainly makes the game more logical. It’s a fun setting to mess around with to further limit crewmate vision with the lights sabotage and increase difficulty overall.

6. Myth: If an imposter kills someone standing in the door and shuts the door, the body can’t be reported.

This myth has been confirmed. Unfortunately for crewmates, even though you may be able to see the body, it does not mean you will be able to report it. Doors are officially the best place to kill if the imposter gets a chance.

7. Myth: You cannot type the word “trapping” into the Among Us chat without it being censored.

Yet another censored word for what seems like no reason. Although, it does make a great myth. Seeing this many English words censored makes me want to type the entire English dictionary into the Among Us chat. Maybe that can be a project for summer break.

8. Myth: If you follow someone for 0.2 seconds you are automatically sus and voted out.

This myth has been confirmed! Be careful who you follow...

9. Myth: Ghosts can open the sliding glass doors on the map Mira HQ.

This is one of the more well known myths proven to be true. Ghosts now have a way to communicate with the living. I can definitely see some sort of morse code being set up between friends so the ghost can rat out the imposters.

10. Myth: If you run and open the settings tab at the same time, you autorun.

Autorun was never an option in the game settings, but there was actually an option to do this the whole time. If your fingers ever get tired, you could potentially use this.

Hopefully these interesting myths taught you some tips and tricks to outsmart the other players. Many more are bound to be discovered if you want to be a smart and deceitful Among Us gamer. Have fun!
