The Kamiak Show Band performs again! After a one-year hiatus, the band worked their hardest to create an amazing show. During the last performance year in 2019, the Show Band placed Kamiak’s highest ever: third place at NWAPA regionals. NWAPA, the Northwest Association for Performing Arts, is a competition of the entire northwestern region, including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and California schools. This year, Kamiak Show Band presents "Off the Wall," a play on famous British artist Banksy. The inspiration for Kamiak's show stems from Banksy's "Girl with a Balloon" and "Umbrella Girl." The band also performs with all-new uniforms and accessories to create a more ‘punk’ look.

Tying into the show’s theme, the music centers around Banksy’s works’ titles, featuring songs like Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “99 Red Balloons” by NENA. Kamiak’s musical spotlight features Josh Rivera ‘22, Paige Becker ‘22, George Smeby ‘22, Chase Stafford ‘23, Nicole Bogner ‘22, and select ensembles, such as a trombone feature. Also, a Color Guard solo from Audrey Chiak ‘22.

Recently, the band played showcases at Goddard Day and Music in Motion at Goddard Stadium while also competing in the NWAPA Sunset Classic competition in Oregon. After a technical issue, which resulted in a shaky performance at Preliminaries, the Showband finished strong and won first place at Finals! Their finishing score was 86.53, narrowly beating Grants Pass. After winning high music and overall visual awards, the Show Band is eager to continue progressing and performing with excellence. They also performed at the Everett Puget Sound Festival of the Bands on the 23rd.

The Showband performed their final show at the NWAPA Northern Regional Competition in Oregon at Sherwood High School on Oct. 30th, 2021. They received their highest placement and score in history, finishing 2nd, with a score of 89.90. With the end of a spectacular season, the Kamiak Show Band is proud to have been able to perform this year, especially after a gap year and smaller member numbers than usual. Look forward to another memorable show next year!
