In 2016, when I started at the Simpson Street Free Press, most of my writing was expository, written from sources about topics I was interested in. SSFP was where I gained my basic journalistic writing skills.
The next year, I started taking on more local news and environmental topics as an intern at the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department. I also wrote one of my first serious editorials on representation in children's books.
In 2018, I reported on a vast variety of subjects and also wrote my second editorial on restorative justice in schools. In the summer of 2018, I interned at the Cap Times as well.
2019 was my busiest year in writing. I took on a project at the Madison Public Library writing a series on summer art workshops. The same summer, I interned with the Madison Magazine writing and fact-checking stories.
At the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020, SSFP was prepared to move completely online. I began writing extensively on the 6th Circuit Court decision declaring access to literacy a fundamental right.
In 2021, I started as a volunteer reporter for the Eastside News, and in 2022, I became a staff writer for the yearbook.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of my work. In these samples, my writing spans from newspaper journalism to magazine and editorial pieces. My scope sweeps the past and present on local, state, national, and international levels. Each piece contains a new experience of mine as a journalist and a member of my community.
