Early East High yearbooks (1920's) inspired this feature spread, which included collages with odd photo captions called Tower Snaps. The collages featured pictures of students, teachers, and community members in funny poses, surrounded by hand-drawn doodles. My partner and I wanted to emulate this early piece of East culture for the Centennial yearbook.
This was the first spread I created in the yearbook. What I learned in designing this spread was to be conscious of space vs. content so the pages would not feel cluttered.
I have since designed several other spreads, including Girls V. Basketball, a quick read at the end of the 9th grade portrait pages, and a spread on the many school theater productions of the year.
For the past two years, I've also been an editor for the school literary magazine. In addition to layout design and editing, I have also designed magazine covers for our yearly themes. They were designed in Procreate.
This design was created in Procreate and was heavily inspired by the contributions of the Black press.
This design was created using Adobe Illustrator and Fresco for 31 Days, a Black art show.
