Simpson Street Free Press (SSFP) is a staple in the Madison community, known for our writing and our reputation. To keep up, we make appearances at events throughout the area to continue making connections with people who have supported us for years and make new ones with those who may not know who we are. SSFP is not about sales, it is about who and how many people we can show the work we do.
When it comes to audience engagement, whether I'm working SSFP or yearbook, knowing my audience comes first. For SSFP, I know I'm reaching a much wider range of people, but mostly adults, which changes how I approach writing my articles and why, as an organization, we rely on Facebook and email newsletters to spread our content. For yearbook, our readers are most teenage students, but the yearbook is a book that will be around for a long time. Our content must be relevant and memorable. Our demographic is also why we often rely on social media like Instagram to spread our message.
