In the summer right before ninth grade, I volunteered as a feature writer for the Madison Public Library, covering a series of art workshops. I took these photos using my phone for each story. I captured the young people learning, working together, and making art with their friends and families. I loved being able to talk to kids and parents and see their wonderful creations.

For this Eastside News assignment, I went to a brand new local record store - Boneset Records. I had been in Yearbook for about a quarter at this point and was still getting used to using a real camera. I asked our teacher if I could check one out for the weekend and she gave me some useful pointers on how to maximize my photos. At first, I was too nervous to ask the owner if I could take pictures, but soon, I started to get comfortable with snapping moments as I encountered them.
This is my first year taking yearbook and I've learned a lot, especially concerning photography. I took this collection of photographs on our 'Decades' spirit day in the fall. In yearbook, I specifically learned how to take candid photos, which is something that I still struggle with. When taking candids, I focus on trying to capture moments, rather than people.
