Bird of Prey Interview

Program description

Virtual field trip available for:

2nd Grade: 2-LS4-1 Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats

3rd Grade: 3-LS3-2 Use evidence to support the explanation that traits can be influenced by the environment.

4th Grade: 4-LS1-1 Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

5th Grade: 5-ESS3-1 Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment.

Middle School: MS-LS2-2 Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems

High School: HS-LS4-4 Construct an explanation based on evidence for how natural selection leads to adaptation of populations

  • During this Virtual field trip students will meet a live bird of prey from the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, learn about their biology and ecology

  • Aligned with Michigan Science Standards

  • Options for Elementary, Middle and High school

  • Designed to keep students engaged for:

    • 35 minutes

Bird of prey interview

  • $50/class or $125 for up to 150 students

  • If your school can't cover the registration, we have scholarships available

Programs can be scheduled between 9:30-11:00 am on:

  • March 11th, 18th, 25th

  • April 1st, 8th

  • May 13th, 20th, 27th

What to expect

  • BEFORE THE PROGRAM

  • One week before the event, we will send you some information about birds of prey to review with your students

  • Submit any questions your students have about birds of prey here

  • Two days before the program you will receive the link to the virtual field trip

  • DURING THE PROGRAM

  • If you are able, please start your meeting 5-10 min early

  • Students and teachers will be muted during the presentation

  • Please submit questions you and your students have in the chat or Q & A feature. Following the 25 min program we will open it to questions.

  • AFTER THE PROGRAM
