Land Ownership

The film starts on the fells with Pendle Hill in the background. This was the site of the infamous Pendle Witch trials - whose sorry tale starts with a matter of land ownership.

This was the time of the enclosures, when a few rich enclosed a lot of land throwing off any 'assarters'...squatters. Much of the landscape we see today, was made in these early 1600s. Our small (100acres) farm (right) was part of those enclosures - in 1621..
