Could you see your shadow as you walked?
How does the area look different from when you were walking to school a few weeks ago? What changes can you spot?
Draw a picture of any other signs of summer that you notice on your walk.
Natural Environments - Habitats.
Minibeasts
insects are also known as minibeasts.
A habitat is another name for a home.
A microhabitat is a very small home - perfect size for an insect.
Many different minibeasts live in many different microhabitats. They are suited to live in that microhabitat because they can find the food, water and shelter they need.
Can you identify the following minibeasts and microhabitats from the picture?
Woodlouse, bee, dragonfly, spider, caterpillar, ant, worm, butterfly.
Can you identify the following microhabitats from the picture?
Web, soil, anthill, flowers, under rocks, leaf, lake, hive.

People At Work: The Farmer
Take a look at the picture and discuss it. Below are some questions that you could ask.
Who is in this picture?
What item does he not need on the farm?
Can you show me all of the items that the farmer uses for his job?
What do you think he might need these for?
What else do you think a farmer needs on a farm?
What other animals do you think live on the farm?
Why is the farmer's job important?

Living in the Local Community - The Doctor
New words - vaccinations, stethoscope, syringe, prescription, bandage, surgery, clinic, chemist, patient
Look at the picture with your child and have the following discussion:
What is happening in this picture?
Why do you think the mammy brought the baby to the doctor?
What is the doctor using to examine the baby? (stethoscope)
Where is this taking place? (clinic, surgery, hospital)
Why do we need doctora?
Name the doctor you go to when you are sick.
When did you go to the doctor? What was wrong with you?
When you need medicine, the doctor writes the name of the medicine on a piece of paper. What is the piece of paper called? (prescription)
Where do you go to get the prescription?
What does the doctor use to take your temperature (thermometer)
What is a syringe and why would a doctor use one?
Why do babies and small children need to get vaccinations?
Who else works with people who are sick?
