Is this thing on?
Be sure to treat yourself to dinner, a beverage, or a snack at Watermark's cafe while you listen. And thank Lynne and the fabulous staff for hosting so many great events!
July 16, 2026: KAC Open Mic
Kansas Authors Club Poetry & Prose Open Mic Night at Watermark Books & Cafe, featuring Janice Northerns & Tammy Hader, Wichita Authors Club volunteer leadership team members. The event is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Around 6:15 I'll read from The Sigh and Flutter ... which, coincidentally, you can buy at Watermark — I'll have free "swag" for you, too! Help me cheer on my KAC buddies — or share your stuff. For more info & to RSVP (it's free, but they'd like a headcount) or sign up to read, visit: https://watermarkbooks.com/event/2026-07-16/poetry-prose-open-mic-night

Co-conspiratory reading with Kerry Moyer at Middle Ground
Thanks to Lance, Debra, Megan and the fine folks at Middle Ground Books & Gifts in Emporia for welcoming me as a reader. This shop (along with several other spots in Emporia's downtown) is a must-see anytime you are in the area. Their bookish blog is also a must-hear!
Thanks also to Kerry Moyer for inviting me to share the "stage" in one of his favorite hometown haunts. He's the author of Turnpike Prairie, Rust & Weeds, Dirt Road, and Salt — check out my review of the latter on Storygraph.

August 8, 2026: hopefully!
Wichita Public Library's Local Authors Day
Fingers crossed that my application will be accepted for my own author spot. But if not, I plan to be there "in the audience" at the very least. Or I might be with the Kansas Authors Club, if they have a table again this year.
At any rate, whether or not I'm there in an "official" capacity, I encourage YOU to go! It's an amazing way to get to know fascinating folks in your community and bring some of their stories home to experience for yourself.

The Write Bridge journal read-around at Watkins Museum of History
I'm thrilled to have a new poem in the next issue of Anamcara Press's The Write Bridge | Mind the Gap "Freedom & Tyranny" theme issue. I'll be joining other folks in Lawrence, Kansas for an inspiring afternoon of readings. (My piece is a micropoem, so don't attend just for me--go for the whole experience!) More details TBA ... meanwhile, please check out the many wonderful publications and authors at:
"The Poet's Round Table" with Kevin Rabas, H.B. Berlow, and William Brian Johnson: hear it NOW!

KJHK's "Poetry Power Hour" with Max Bryan
Thanks to Max for taking an hour to let me reminisce about my glory days as a student at the University of Kansas ("Rock Chalk Jayhawk")! Including a stint as a KJHK deejay for a drive-time alternative rock show, and publication in KU's Kiosk Literary Magazine (now defunct; it was long ago ... I'm old).
Recorded via Google Meet on May Day (5/1) 2026. Podcast publishing date (on Spotify, Podcast Addict, etc.) is still To Be Announced ... please stay tuned ...

Free State Book Festival (see The Lawrence Times preview article here)
at the Lawrence Public Library: https://lplks.org/
I had the honor of sharing an author table with the brilliant Tasjha Dixon: check out her website at www.empoweringkcwithtasjha.com and subscribe to her Substack, "The People's Oracle: Writings for Our Freedom." Thanks to Beth Gulley for organizing the poetry open mic where I read a couple random poems from my new book, and crossed paths with hardworking writers like Annette Billings, Diane Silver, Linzi Garcia, Debra Irsik, T.A. Dugan, Brian Daldorph, Ian Cook, and Will Averill. And, of course, I couldn't say no to helping staff the Kansas Authors Club table (I guess I could have said "no," but then I would have felt like a schmuck). Thanks also to Anamcara Press, the Raven Book Store, and Kansas Authors Club for helping the LPL co-host this community celebration!
