This project is about how social media impacts ourselves and society as a whole. First, we will take a quiz on how addicted to social media we are and then discuss how it impacts us and how social media affects everyone else in society.
I took a survey on the Time To Log Off website to see how dependent on social media I am. My result was that I am fairly reliant on social media. I am not surprised about my results. I am aware I spend a lot of time on my phone but I feel like my use is pretty balanced and I do use it for academic reasons as well.
I found a statistic on the Pew Research Center website that shows that women are trying to take more breaks from social media, specifically Twitter. A lot of people are trying to cut back on it now and realizing they need a break from it. I chose this static because I as a woman, know women are mostly impacted by social media and it is interesting that women are trying to not be as reliant on it.
I think social media has brought a lot of positivity into society. I think it shows a lot of bad in the world and is a great news source but there can also be a lot of fake news and false information as well. I think people are more aware of taking breaks from social media now than in the past but it is also a great stress reliever for some people including me. I think social media is a great resource that benefits society but people should be aware and educated of all the bad parts of it.
From this project, I learned that everyone is different in how they use social media and how often. Also, different demographics are affected more than others such as women.
