Does Scream really make you Scream?

Hello horror fans and welcome. I am Juan and I want to indulge you in my love for scary movies. Today’s scary movie review is the Scream movie series. I know that a new one is soon to come out and it takes place in New York, which is a new setting from the usual. This story follows the seven survivors who will restart their lives in the city of New York as they moved away from Woodsboro. This excites me because I can definitely expect this movie to be different. I know for a fact it will be different because the main character Sydney Prescott who is played by Neve Campbell, is not in the casting for Scream 6. But you never know because horror movies love to add twists in them like Marvel movies for example. My prediction for Scream 6 is going to be that Sydney Prescott herself will end up being the killer. As crazy as that sounds, it could be true.

Let's talk about the possibilities as to why that can be true. One, she has been terrorized by this serial killer for YEARS now. You don't think she understood the ways of the killer to the point where she could ultimately become the killer? She has killed many people already and is not new to death. That goes into my next point where she knows how killers move and work so she can strategize a way to reach the survivors in New York. Third, she can simply just miss the drama and become lonely and jealous of the survivors’ comradery that she just feels left out. My last prediction will be that since there are always two killers, somehow Dewey will come back and be the second killer. But let's get more in depth with the movies that I believe were the best out of the five.

First, scream 5, which I can conclude to be the third favorite out of the three favorite. I say this because it  is the cheesiest, most cringe scream movie out of the five. And the funny part is that it's basically a remake of the first scream movie which is also very cheesy but loved by most. At some point you have to ask yourself, when is enough enough. I say this because each movie has the same reason as to why the killer is motivated to kill and that is because they want to “create their own movie” or “chapter” which is very fun and interesting but  I think they overdid themselves on this one. And you might say ,”then why are you talking about the scream series” and that is because I fell in love with the very first one as it has become very iconic all around the world.  It has one of the most famous lines that states, “what's your favorite scary movie”. Scream one has made me love this series but now that we're coming into the new scream series, Scream six, we have quite a few to unravel. Out of Scream five, two and one, this has to be the worst out the best. Let me explain. The start of the movie is amazing but once you get into the characters that have no acting skills at all, then you begin to have doubts about the movie. I feel like I would have gathered a couple of my buddies and we could've knocked this movie out of the park by how horrible the actors were. Especially the killers. I could not believe the dialogue they had. It was as if it was like two grown adults who just got done killing people arguing and acting and talking like children. Lastly, the one main reason why I bash on this movie the most out of the others is because they use words such as “Netflix” or make connections to the real world. Like it is weird when the actors know that there is Netflix and an actual scream movie that they so call “Stab”. I find that very unsatisfying and for some reason uncomfortable. I wish they could have just kept it as to where the actors didn't know about it.  In a way though, that make sense because Scream 1-5 piggy- backs off of the Stab movies.  Hence the reason for the killers.

Moreover, I want to provide some insight on Scream one and two. In Scream 1 you are introduced to people like Billy who is played by Skeet Ulrich, and Stuart who is played by Matthew Lilard. These are true actors. They were very fun to watch because the acting did not seem like acting if that makes sense. They had seriousness, suspense, and actual intimidation. I don't easily get scared but Scream 1 did have me on the edge of my seat. At home, obviously.  Another reason why I enjoyed this movie so much more was because of the cinematography. The old-looking film is what made it special. For example, the films from the 90s had a different lens that made it so nostalgic. For me I like classic films so that might be another reason as to why I might be biased.

Moving forward to Scream 2, it was a continuation of the first installment which I also enjoyed but not as much. I felt like the characters were too aware and so once the characters were killed, it wasn’t super scary or satisfying. Sydney gets a boyfriend and then that boyfriend has a friend that plans to sabotage and kill. You cannot trust the boyfriend! The only boyfriend that you can trust is Deputy Dewey, who is played by David Arquette. He is the light of this series because he is what brings the comedic act to these films. He is always getting gruesomely stabbed and shot but at the end of each movie, there is a scene that cuts to him being placed in an ambulance. All while being alive. It's like this guy is a God because he simply does not die. And that brings me back to the point of when is enough really enough. He is brought back for Scream 5 and he seriously looks like he has had enough. Throughout the movie he looks like he doesn't even want to be there and it is way too obvious. And as you might have guessed it, he is again “killed” in this movie but you never know.  As I am writing this review, I am very skeptical now about my prediction.

I know that I only watched Scream one, two and five and that is because after Scream two, I sort of noticed the repetitiveness that it brings in the killings. The rules are repeatedly stated on how to survive a scary movie, so we already know what to expect. The only exciting part is whenever the killer is unraveled and as humorous as it is, there are always two killers. The motives for the killings are always the same; “to keep the chapter going”.  Something interesting that they can include is at least a better storyline. The cast for Scream 5 was stacked but the lines and the diction and the movies' dialogue that is portrayed in the movies is cheesy but enjoyable although, I found the recent scream movie very over the top cheesy and hard to watch because of the characters. Like I said before the cast is stacked but the killers in the new movie lacked suspension, intimidation, and overall lacked in delivering. It is very hard to fill the shoes of the original killers because they have become such icons. They are basically irreplaceable. nevertheless, the old is now the new and I think Scream 5 was definitely a set up for a new story line and an overall refresher at the scream series if they continue beyond just Scream 6.

Which is why they introduce the new character Tara, who is played by Jenna Ortega and has done an incredible job at putting her name out there in very popular horror movies like X or a show like Wednesday. In the new Scream five movie, she represents the same character as Sydney Prescott who the killer was after in the first couple of movies. I really look forward to this new Scream movie because the trailer looks enticing and, in a sense, we are getting something different. It comes out on March 10th, and you can most certainly catch me there at the premiere. This scary movie already has me wishing for it to fall all over again because nothing can beat a fall vibe as there are longer nights and a lot of fright. That is all for today and I hope I have sparked some thinking because let's be honest, do these Scream movies really make you Scream anymore?
